I’ve been training with the Couch to 5k (c25k) program from coolrunning.com for several weeks using the podcasts created for the program by Robert Ullrey. Although some of those weeks extended to two weeks while I either needed some extra conditioning to get through the routines or didn’t have enough time to squeeze in the three runs a week.
I find it helpful to have a program, a routine, a plan for working out; something to follow. I have created my own in the past, but if someone has already done the work, why duplicate the effort.
That’s the first part. The second is having an objective. While there are many people I know, admire, and respect that enjoy running for running’s sake, but I’m not there. Having an objective, something to work toward is helpful. A few people I know that have tried and completed the couch to 5k program did exactly that. They completed it, then stopped. End of story.
So, I checked several websites looking for 5k events in the area around the end of June. Nothing. Nothing in July. August.
While I was at Portland Running Co. getting analyzed for the right running shoe, I picked up a flyer for the Pints to Pasta 10k.
It’s a bigger challenge, but the podcast training workouts I found, the Freeway to 10K, start at about the level I’m running currently. So, I’ll give it a shot.
